About Our Cataract Service
The Cataract Service at Bristol Eye Hospital offers high-quality, patient-centred care. We provide timely assessment and surgery for cataracts, led by experienced consultants and supported by a skilled multidisciplinary team. Our goal is to improve vision and quality of life with a focus on safety and excellence.
How to Refer
We accept referrals from GPs, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals. Please include the patient's visual acuity, symptoms, ocular history, and any relevant systemic information.

Optometry Education
We are proud to offer regular evening educational events for optometrists, hosted by our Consultant Clinical Lead for Cataract Surgery. These sessions are designed to provide high-quality, practical education and will be CPD registered.
Topics covered include best practices in cataract referral, post-operative care, and updates on surgical techniques. Attendees will benefit from expert-led discussions and Q&A opportunities. Events will be advertised in advance and places may be limited.
We welcome optometrists from across the region to join us in advancing collaborative cataract care through continuous professional development.
